Red Faction: Guerilla, one of the games that caused me to buy a PS3. It offers a fully destructible open-world environment, the opportunity to play at one's own pace, a slick sci-fi on Mars surrounding, and great vehicle physics. And mechs! Multiplayer is still alive and and kicking two years after its release, with some pretty original team deathmatch play (other modes seem abandoned). Last but not least, the best melee weapon of all time: the sledgehammer.
Getting a platinum in this game is a verifiable marathon, not least due to the multiplayer trophies, especially "A Winner is You!" which requires 250 matchmaking wins. I went beyond that to achieve all of them, including 100,000 xp "War Veteran" 99% boost-free (some game modes simply do not come up in matchmaking, so special thanks to multiplayer buddy and volunteer punching bag tonybetrus). With my final double-rail hit, I finally achieved "Mad Genius" and my tenth platinum. Here are some of my milestones:
